Finance Director - Children's Health Council

    Children’s Health Council removes barriers to learning, helping children become resilient, happy and successful at home, at school and in life.

     

    Job Summary: We are seeking an Experienced Financial Leader / Finance Director to help take CHC to the next level as we grow from $20 million today to $30 million over the next few years. Initially, you will be responsible for the overall finance, accounting, reporting, banking, and IT activities, while assisting the CFO/COO with budgeting, financial modeling, investment management and risk management.

    The Finance Director reports to, and supports the Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer (CFO/COO).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

     

    Financial Operations
    • Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
    • Responsible for all journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, closing, reporting, and analysis of all accounts, assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, sources, uses, and statements of financial position, activities and changes in net assets.
    • Responsible for the accounts payable / accounts receivable functions.
    • Responsible for fixed assets management.
    • Assists the CFO/COO with cash management.
    • Manage all endowment investment accounting.
    • Responsible for ensuring a timely and accurate completion of the monthly closing process, including account analysis and reconciliation, variance analysis and Key Indicator (KI) report generation / distribution.
    • Coordinate with the Advancement Office to ensure that all gifts and pledges are accurately accounted for (unrestricted, restricted, endowment, etc.).
    Audit & Tax
    • Complete oversight of the annual certified audit process.
    • Prepares audit schedules, account analysis, addresses audit questions and assists in the financial statement preparation.
    • Preparation of schedules and support for preparation of annual tax returns.
    • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all fiscal reporting functions.

    Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

    Ideal Experience and Qualifications: 

    The ideal candidate should have the following experience and qualifications:

    • Strong financial management experience.
    • Strong ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions.
    • Experience in effectively presenting key data, budgets, and financial reports including presentations to Executive Management.
    • Organized, with highly effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Abila (Sage), and CRM platforms such as Netsmart AVATAR.
    • Detail-oriented, flexible and organized worker with initiative and the ability to work independently and adjust priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
    • 5+ years of progressively responsible combined accounting and finance leadership experience.
    • Significant experience in or knowledge of non-profit accounting.
    • Ability to partner with others within the Organization and obtain confidence and trust.

    Physical Requirements:  An employee in this position may be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pound boxes as well as work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal.
