    Position Type: Full-Time; Staff; Exempt

    Bentley School, an independent K-12 school with campuses in Oakland and Lafayette, California, seeks a qualified Director of Advancement. The Director of Advancement is responsible for oversight of the School’s Annual Fund, for leadership on key special events, and managing Advancement staff, including the Communications and Development Manager, Database and Annual Fund Manager, and Director of Events and Alumni Relations. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



    • ·         Collaborate with the Head of School, Director of External Relations, the Board’s Advancement Committee, and the Board of Trustees in determining the School’s near-and long-range goals for donor support.
    • ·         Design and implement comprehensive fundraising and marketing plans for the Annual Fund and Senior Class Gift campaigns, including the calendar, segmentation, communication, reporting, and stewardship
    • ·         Recruit, train, and supervise the volunteers who assist with School fundraising
    • ·         Research prospects to determine appropriate ask levels
    • ·         Coordinate with the Database and Annual Fund Manager to ensure timely gift processing, pledge payments, acknowledgments and accurate reporting
    • ·         Coordinate with the Director of External Relations and Associate Director of Communications to produce the Annual Report and other fundraising collateral and materials
    • ·         Expand Bentley’s Planned Giving program
    • ·         Coordinate with Director of External Relations in production of grant requests as needed
    • ·         Work with the Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events, the Gala Chair, and volunteer parent committee members to ensure all business operations, communications, and logistics related to the annual Gala and Auction are successfully executed

    Alumni Relations

    • Oversee the work of the Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events to
    •    o   Grow the numbers and depth of alumni relationships
    •    o   Share stories of alumni success in magazine and admissions materials as appropriate
    •    o   Plan and execute annual alumni events, including regional receptions, holiday party, reunions, Alumni Induction ceremony, and others
    •    o   Continue to develop a class representative program to involve alumni in current program goals

    Special Events

    • ·         Provide oversight and management of all business operations and logistics related to the Gala and Auction, in partnership with all stakeholders
    • ·         Provide oversight on school special events including but not limited to: donor stewardship events, the volunteer appreciation luncheon, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, and alumni events
    • ·         Partner with other members of the Advancement team and other School departments to prepare for the School’s Centennial celebration


    • ·         Bachelor’s degree
    • ·         Minimum of 3 years of experience developing and directing annual fund and alumni relations programs
    • ·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • ·         Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, motivate, and work with volunteers
    • ·         Organized, self-directed collaborator who creates and maintains positive relationships with the Head of School, administration, Board of Trustees, Bentley Parent Association and donors.
    • ·         Fluency in Microsoft suite, Raisers Edge, and social media
    • ·         Ability to work some nights and weekends; possible travel
