    The German International School of Silicon Valley (GISSV) is a private school from Preschool through 12th Grade with a bilingual German-English educational program. Upon graduation, our students earn a German International Abitur and take part in all qualifications and exams needed for an American High School Diploma. We serve children of all nationalities in the San Francisco Bay Area and are accredited by the German Government and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

    We currently have an immediate opening for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to fill the position of a MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER.


    The Marketing and Communications Manager will devise and implement external and internal communications strategies to ensure that the school communicates in a consistent, professional and prompt fashion with students, teachers, parents, staff and administrative employees, schools, trustees and the wider community. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of the school website, year-round communications and all publications (print and electronic) ensuring a well-defined school image and message consistency paying particular attention to social media and brand identity programs.


    This position is located at the Mountain View campus and might require occasional travel to the San Francisco and Emeryville campus locations.


    The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and the Head of School and is part of the extended administrative team. Some evening and weekend hours for events are required.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Promote GISSV's mission to both internal constituencies and the community at large to ensure that the school maintains frequent, consistent communication that builds lasting positive relationships with prospective families, parents, faculty, and alumni.
    • Assess media trends and make recommendations to senior leadership; give guidance for prioritizing duties.
    • Gain deep insight into the independent school market, in order to best place and utilize GISSV’s advertising and marketing efforts.
    • Develop, implement, and oversee the school communication plan in coordination with the Head of School and the CAO (Chief Administrative Officer), with a strong focus on attracting new students, and strengthening brand identity within the community.
    • Ensure that all communications, marketing materials, publications, online presence, etc., properly support and reflect GISSV’s style guide, mission and strategic goals; ensuring a well-defined school image and message consistency.
    • Manage, maintain, and develop GISSV’s official website and Social Media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
    • Regularly create and schedule interesting and engaging content on school programs and related activities, with an increasing focus on the use of video, for all media channels.
    • Work with students and staff in order to develop content.
    • Plan and manage the marketing and communications budget in order to maximize the effectiveness of all communications.
    • Develop and coordinate means to solicit on-going feedback from the school’s key constituencies regarding programs and services in coordination with the Head of School and the CAO.
    • Serve as editor for school publications, including school year book.
    • Work closely with chairs from various committees on communications, invitations and publications related to their respective events/activities.
    • Oversee the design and production of all school promotional material / collaterals.
    • Coordinate and lead fundraising, promotional and community events as required, as well as provide support to the Parent’s Association for various school-related events.
    • Quality translations from German to English and English to German.
    • Support the Head of School and CAO as needed.


    • Participate as a member of the Administrative Team.
    • Maintain administrative confidentiality at all times.
    • Other duties and/or projects as assigned by the Chief Administration Officer.


    • Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably in an independent school environment.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proof-reading skills.
    • Experience with website content management and student information systems, as well as various Social Media platforms.
    • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with current Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
    • Solid photography and videography skills (Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut or similar).
    • Fluency in English and German.
    • Detail oriented, self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects at the same time.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work in cross-functional teams.
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
    • Availability to work nights and weekends on occasion.

    FLSA Classification: Exempt, regular full-time (40h/week, 12-months)
