Would you please share your thoughts and experience is implementing iPad programs? I am especially interested to know if your school purchased iPads for the faculty or required the faculty to use their personal iPads for the school program. Did you give them any incentives and in what form if any?

Do you use a STEP Schedule

I am a new treasurer at a parent-run co-op. I'm looking for information to revamp our step schedule. It currently increases 3% with each step, and then is adjusted annually for cola., so that the rates were compounding (w/the cola) Is this typical? It seems very high. Does anyone use 1% to 2 % increases between steps, and should it gradually go down (% increase) as the steps go up.

Athenian reimburses up to $1,000 per person per year for pre-approved professional development courses and activities.

(I just did a $450 perma-culture course approved by the Head. We ran the course on campus, but had to pay guest lecturers.)

Online Membership Renewal for Current Members

To renew your membership and receive an automatic invoice, go to the website link in your reminder e-mail and log in. When you do, you'll be taken directly to your profile page. You should see a button to "Renew Until 01 Aug 2012." Select that link and follow the prompts.

The above method should work, but alternatively, you can go to the www.isboa.org and log in from there. Once you do, you'll see "View Profile" in the lower left hand side. Click on that and you'll again be taken to your profile and should see the "Renew Until 01 Aug 2012" button.

If you have any problem at all, please let me know.

Separately, the online payment option is being delayed another couple of days, so you may want to wait a little longer to renew if you're planning on using that option. We spoke to the underwriters at CyberSource and was advised that our application will be completed by end of business today, July 18, but to "turn on" the service may require an additional day or two.

We'll be letting everyone know when the online payment option is available.

Delinquent Accounts

Hi,

Our school has made repeated efforts to collect on a couple of delinquent tuition accounts. I understood from the previous headmaster that it was a common practice to tell parents that a student would not be allowed to sit for final exams if tuition was not paid. Is this a standard practice? I’ve also been told that a better practice might be to allow all students to take final exams and tell delinquent parents that no grades will be given or no diploma will be awarded without payment.

Best practices?

Membership Expands to include all California Independent Schools

On May 6, 2011, at the annual ISBOA conference (business session) the membership voted to change the by-laws so that all independent schools in California can now join ISBOA and take advantage of our professional development programs, list serve and annual statistics survey. If you wish to participate in the annual "stats" survey simply fill-out the membership form, (located on this website), and submit your dues before the survey closes. The survey usually begins in early August and runs through mid-September. Exact dates and information regarding the survey will be posted on the website in the near future. Questions concerning membership can be directed to Francios Guedenet (francoisguedenet@istp.org) and for survey questions contact Paul Galvin (pgalvin@sffriendsschool.org).

Message from Mayer Riff about the June 2011 NBOA Business Officer Institute

I thought I’d pass this along because it’s open to non-NBOA members and there are some early-bird discounts available. I’ve been to the Business Officer Institute twice as a participant and this will be my second time on the faculty and it’s a great way to get professional development.
